Officials from the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees announced Thursday that 81 percent of its members voted to authorize a strike. The vote -- which happened at hundreds of sites around the state over the last three weeks and wrapped up Sunday -- does not necessarily mean one will occur.
It only authorizes AFSCME's bargaining committee to call a strike, a decision that will come later.
AFSCME Council 31 executive director Roberta Lynch said the union is still committed to trying to "find another path forward" that would avoid a strike.
