Results of NPD's Distracted Driving Campaign

The Normal Police Department today announced it issued 227 citations during Illinois’distracted driving campaign.

The increased enforcement was part of the national Distracted Driving Awareness Month effort supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation.

“Driver distraction is a persistent issue in Normal and often has life-altering consequences,” said Asst. Chief Petrilli “We implemented this enforcement action to encourage motorists to drop it and drive.”

During the two-week campaign that ran April 16-30, the Normal Police Department handled:

· 196 electronic communication device citations
· 2 seat belt citations
· 4 suspended/revoked licenses
· 17 uninsured motorists
· 2 speeding citations
· 2 drug arrests
· 4 other moving/non-moving violations

Total violations: 227

“Distracted Driving Awareness Month may be over, but the Normal Police Department will continue
working to stop residents from engaging in this deadly behavior,” Asst. Chief Petrilli said.
