Last Chief, Smithsonian Native American Expert To Speak At U of I

The last student to dress as The Chief and the Smithsonian's expert on Native Americans will headline the University of Illinois' "special discussion" on its former mascot next week.  The university announced yesterday that the Smithsonian's Kevin Gover and the last Chief, Dan Maloney, will talk to Chief supporters and opponents.  U of I leaders say the idea of the meeting is to figure out how to move on from The Chief, not how to bring him back.
