Normal Raises Property Taxes

Despite several people speaking against the increase, the town council moved forward with raising its property tax levy by nearly seven percent The revenue raised is set to fund police and fire pensions. This is the 11th year in the row the council has upped its levy. But, the council points out, the increases have not gone to the town's General Fund. Members say there aren't any other good options to fund the pensions. The increase will raise property taxes about $40 for a $165,000 house.
