Sprague's on Old Rt 66 Grand Opening

A historic gas station is getting ready to reopen as a tourist destination in Normal. Sprague's Super Service will celebrate its grand opening on Saturday. The Town of Normal purchased Sprague's in the Spring of 2016 for about $458,000. The service station was built on Route 66 back in 1931. It closed down in the 1940's. It was put on the National Register of Historic Places in 2008.It was previously owned by Terri Ryburn, who spend years working to revitalize the station. The town decided to purchase the property to finish the restorations, to help tap into the Route 66 tourist market that runs through Bloomington-Normal.
