Portillo's Soft Opening a Huge Success

The Chicago-style hotdog, burgers and Italian beef restaurant  that Normal has been waiting for opened its doors today and patrons came in numbers.  Traffic on Landmark Drive was snarled at times as traffic from all directions tried to drive into the parking lot of the new eatery. The parking lot and drive-thru lanes were filled as traffic guides worked earnestly to keep the vehicles moving in an orderly fashion. The town of Normal agreed to give developer Bloomington Landmark LLC $1.875 million in future sales tax receipts from the restaurant — a cost of as much as $2 million with interest — to subsidize demolition and construction of this
restaurant project.
