Rauner Vetoes Budget Bills, Senate Overrides Veto; House Will Meet in Veto Session Wednesday

Gov. Bruce Rauner has vetoed a revenue and spending package which quickly cleared the Illinois Senate on Tuesday, as promised. “I just vetoed Speaker Madigan’s 32% permanent income tax increase,” Rauner said on his Facebook and Twitter pages. Shortly thereafter, the Senate overrode the vetoes. Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan said he won’t call for immediate overrides on Tuesday due to attendance issues. The House passed a revenue and spending bill on Sunday, and a budget implementation bill on Monday.
