Illinois Has Nearly 200 New Laws
Illinois doesn't have a new state budget, but it does have a new official state artifact. Nearly 200 news laws took effect yesterday. Along with official recognition that the pirogue is the official state artifact, lawmakers repealed a tax on tampons, and created a new law that allows parents to use their sick time to go to a doctor's appointment with their children. Illinois' six-month state budget expired yesterday as well. Illinois now doesn't have the legal authority to spend money on anything but schools, pension, state worker paychecks, and a handful of social services.
